chicago kids' triathlon
Kicking off its inaugural season in 2015, Live Grit SOARS Kids Tri team is the heart of our programming.
In our first season we were elated to serve 9 youth athletes that were all first-time triathletes, some of which had never ridden a bike or learned how to swim.
We now have the privilege to work with over 75 of Chicago's youth on the west and south side. We aim to provide a safe and supportive place for these youth to develop the skills to persevere towards their long-term goals and become the next generation of leaders.
2021 kids triathlon
After a year off due to covid-19, the Live Grit SOARS athletes competed in the Chicago Kids' Triathlon this August. They spent all summer swimming, biking, and running in preparation. Check out a recap by one of our coaches here.
Due to COVID-19 and the closure of schools around the country, Digital Inequity was highlighted in many of Chicago’s communities. On March 18th, 2020 we mobilized quickly and gave, not loaned, Chromebooks to students across Chicago. We had a specific focus on the city's most vulnerable youth, those in foster care. We have raised $38,700 to give 215 devices to students across Chicago, 85% of those students were youth in care.
Our work does not stop here. According to recent study published by Kids First Chicago and Municipal Planning Council, there are still 100,000+ Chicago students who do not have long-term access to the digital world. Our mission is to bridge this gap by ensuring all Chicago students have equal access to technology, internet service and the training necessary to navigate those tools.
